Over the bump or under the bump?

Over-the-bump jeans have a full elastic jersey panel that covers the whole bump. They give the most support, stay put in the third trimester and are usually the pair people keep wearing in the first weeks after birth. The trade-off is warmth: a full panel is noticeably hotter in summer.

Under-the-bump jeans sit below the bump on a wide, soft band. They feel closest to normal jeans and are the more comfortable choice early and mid pregnancy, but they can slide down once the bump gets heavy — especially in stiffer denim with little elastane.

Side-panel and adjustable-waist styles sit in between: elastic inserts or a button tab let the waist grow, and they are the easiest to keep using afterwards. Each product page shows the bump-panel wording exactly as the brand states it, so you can tell which system a pair uses before you order.

How to pick your size

Start from your pre-pregnancy size. Maternity denim is cut with the extra room over bump and hips built in, so going up a size usually leaves you with jeans that gape at the back. Size up only if you were already between two sizes.

Sizing systems differ across the brands in the table: some use XS–XXL, others use inch-based denim sizes, and a few use Italian or Australian numbering. The Sizes column shows what the brand currently has in stock, and each product page lists the full size run.

Denim stretch matters as much as the number. A pair with 2% elastane holds its shape but has little give; 8% or more feels closer to a legging and follows a growing bump for longer.

Price, shipping and duties
