A maternity garment makes room for a bump; a nursing garment gives access for feeding. Plenty of pieces do both, but the two are separate design problems, and a dress or top with no opening is not a nursing garment however well it fits.
The opening mechanism is the thing worth comparing first. Wrap fronts and crossover layers are discreet and need no hardware. Lift-up double layers keep the lower half covered. Hidden zips and clip-down panels are quicker but more visible. Nursing bras add their own variations: clip-down cups, crossover pull-aside styles, wired and wireless support.
Fabric matters more than usual here, because nursing garments are worn and washed constantly. Heavier jersey and modal blends recover their shape better than thin viscose, which is worth checking in the brand's product details alongside the opening style.
