One garment, so the fit has to work everywhere

A jumpsuit has to fit the shoulders, the bump and the leg length at once, which is why maternity versions differ from ordinary ones in more than width. Adjustable straps and tie waists are what keep a jumpsuit wearable across trimesters; a fixed bodice usually fits for a shorter period.

Dungarees and looser cuts give the most room and often work after birth as well. Fitted jersey jumpsuits show the bump and stretch with it, but depend more on the fabric recovering its shape.

Because these are single garments, inside leg and body length are worth checking in the brand's size chart — the room across the bump can change how long the leg reads.
