Fabric, fit and feeding access

Sleepwear is worn for longer stretches than anything else in a maternity wardrobe, so fabric comes first. Cotton and modal jersey are breathable and wash well; brushed and flannel styles are warmer; satin and viscose feel cool but hold less shape over time.

Fit is mostly about the waist and the front length. Elastic or drawstring bottoms that can sit under the bump are the most adaptable, and a longer front on the top keeps the bump covered. Nightdresses avoid the waistband question altogether.

Many maternity pyjamas double as nursing sleepwear, using a button placket, a wrap front or a lift-up layer. Where a brand describes feeding access, the listing shows it — and many hospital-bag sets are sold on exactly that basis.
