Waistband and length
As with maternity trousers, the waistband decides the fit. Over-bump panels hold shorts in place without adjusting them; under-bump and roll-over waists are cooler and less visible under a longer top. Denim styles depend most on the panel, since the fabric itself gives least.
Length varies more than in ordinary shorts because the rise changes where the waist sits. Fitted cycling styles are usually described by their inside leg measurement, which is the most reliable number to compare across brands.
