What separates one pair of maternity leggings from another

Almost all maternity leggings use an over-bump panel, so the differences are in how high that panel sits and how firmly it holds. A tall, seamless panel stays put through the third trimester and does not roll; a lower or thinner panel is less visible under a top but is more likely to slide down. Some styles are cut to fold down as well, which is what makes them usable after birth.

Fabric decides both opacity and how the leggings last. Cotton and modal blends are soft for everyday wear but thin faster; ribbed and seamless knits are stretchier and hold shape; performance fabrics used in workout and activewear styles are heavier, more supportive and usually squat-tested by the brand. Thermal and wool versions exist for winter and are a genuinely different weight, not just a different color.

Length is worth comparing explicitly, since brands list full-length, 7/8, capri and flare cuts under the same category name. Sizing normally follows your pre-pregnancy size, and each brand publishes its own inseam and panel measurements in its store — those two figures explain most of the fit differences between otherwise similar pairs.
