Construction is what separates two otherwise similar swimsuits. Adjustable or wider straps, an underbust band, and shirred or ruched side seams all change how much the suit grows with you and how much it supports a heavier bust. Coverage is worth reading literally — brands use the same category name for high-waisted, full-coverage bottoms and for cut-away styles.

Fabric decides fit and longevity: higher elastane content stretches further and recovers better, and chlorine-resistant fabrics hold up to pool use. A few pieces are described by the brand as nursing-friendly, usually with a clip or lift-up top — that only applies where the brand states it, not to swimwear generally.
