The access is the whole point, and brands solve it in a few distinct ways. A wrap or crossover bodice opens by pulling one panel aside. A double-layer or lift-up front lets you raise the outer layer while the inner layer stays in place. Concealed zippers or buttons at the bust open a defined slot, which is the least visible option but also the most fixed. Comparing those three approaches tells you more about daily use than the silhouette does.

Fabric and fit decide whether the dress works one-handed. Jersey, rib and modal knits stretch and return, so a lift-up layer sits back down by itself; woven fabrics such as satin and crepe hold their shape and rely on a zipper or buttons instead. Coverage differs too: a wrap opens wider than a zip, while a double layer keeps the midsection covered while feeding.
